Golden Sweet Cornbread

Yields1 ServingPrep Time10 minsCook Time20 minsTotal Time30 mins

 1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup yellow cornmeal (yellow gives it that bright color and sweet flavor!)
 ⅔ cup white sugar
 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
 1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk (whole milk, 2%, or non-dairy—whatever you have in the fridge)
 ⅓ cup vegetable oil
 1 large egg

Gather the ingredients.

  • Prep the station. Set your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grab a 9-inch round cake pan and grease it up real good. Don't skimp here or your bread will stick.

3

  • Mix the dry stuff. Grab a big mixing bowl. Toss in the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk it around until it all looks like one uniform powder.

4

  • Dump in the wet stuff. Pour the milk, vegetable oil, and egg right into that same bowl. Whisk everything together. Don't overthink it, just mix until the flour lumps disappear and you've got a smooth batter.

5

  • Bake it. Scrape all that batter into your greased pan. Slide it into the hot oven.

6

Watch the timer. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes. Poke a toothpick right in the middle if it comes out clean, you're done!

7

Slice and enjoy!
